Would you know what to do if somebody collapsed and stopped breathing? If someone is unresponsive and not breathing their heart will not be pumping blood around their body effectively; this is called a cardiac arrest.
The quicker an unresponsive person who is not breathing can receive chest compressions and a shock from an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) the greater their chance of surival. Defibrillation within 3 to 5 minutes of collapse can produce survival rates as high as 50-70%.
Fortunately we have an AED located outside the main reception at our head office and earlier this week several members of our Ulting team participated in some first aid defibrillator training, learning how to give chest compressions and rescue breaths, as well as using the AED machine.
